Chesapeake Lights Logo M/V Sharps Island

Captain Gary's connection to boats started when his grandfather taught him to row, crab and fish on the Chesapeake Bay and grew to voyages into the Caribbean, across the Atlantic, through the Mediterranean, and into the Indian Ocean as well as a couple of summers spent in the North Atlantic off the coast of Norway. With his family, he spent summers sailing the coast of Maine plying the waters of Casco Bay, Penobscot Bay, and Frenchman's Bay, and the summer of 2013 brought Captain Gary and his family back to the Chesapeake when they lived aboard their boat for the summer; an adventure that convinced the captain it was time to go back to his roots.

Captain Gary possesses a 50-ton Master's License.
